I received this book for an honest review.
Changeling is a story about Skye, a witch who finds casting spells quite challenging and Kheelan, a human who was stolen from his parents by unseelie fairies when he was a toddler. The book sets out at a nice pace and stays that way from beginning to end. There was just the right amount of character development, description and action.
Skye shows depth of character throughout the book, with vulnerability from being rejected by her parents, wanting to fit in with others, having a crush on one of her brother’s friends, facing numerous challenges, doing the right thing and showing compassion for those that were different.
Kheelan grows as a person throughout the book. He starts off enraptured by Skye and wanting to meet her while dealing with his enslavement by the fairies. He completes assignments for the Fairie court that no one else can or wants to do. He latest assignment was to investigate some disappearances and killings of pixies. Sky and her place of employment happen to be in the center of the investigation. He starts off with selfish motives but by the end of the book, he is willing to sacrifice everything he ever wanted.
Skye meets Kheelan and suddenly everything she thought she knew about her life was not what it seemed and she is not who she thought she was. The characters faced numerous situations and challenges along the way. This kept me from putting the book down. I wanted to see what was going to happen next.
Lately, I have been reading so many books in a series that this book was refreshing in that it is a stand-alone book. I loved that I got the whole story and did not have to wait for the next installment to see what occurs.
I liked this book a lot and I am interested in checking out more of this author’s work.
