Review of Carlos’ Peace by Melissa Haag

Reviewed by The Magic of Books Admin, Char Webster

Melissa Haag, once again, weaves an amazing tale of adventure and suspense. Carlos’ Peace by Melissa Haag is the fifth book in the Judgement of the Six Companion Series. This awesome book is the counterpart to (Dis)Content and provides Carlos’ point of view. (Dis)Content was told from Isabelle’s point of view.

As in (Dis)Content, the series story-line is moving along and most of the character from the rest of the books are present. The main characters are Carlos, Isabelle, Ethan, and Grey. The rest of the characters are mentioned frequently and interact with the main ones.

Carlos was always the strong, silent, brooding type of guy in the rest of the books and I didn’t have a major attachment to him. That completely changed in this book. I love Carlos.  In (Dis)Content, Carlos was serious, thoughtful, intelligent, and caring. We got to see him but not really understand what makes him special. In Carlos’ Peace, wow, he is amazing. It makes you fall in love with him.

We get to see Carlos’ internal struggle and how hard his life has been. It clearly shows how much he keeps locked inside and his desperate need for a love and acceptance from everyone, especially Isabelle.

Isabelle is a fighter who has struggled her entire life with an ability that she couldn’t control. It caused her to isolate herself from almost everyone except her best friend Ethan. He was her rock and the only person she could count on. I loved seeing her find out about the Judgements, accept who she is, but still fight for her independence.

Carlos and Isabelle have a lot of chemistry that she fights through most of the book, which makes things very interesting. I loved seeing the flip side of the events from (Dis)Content and getting additional facts that enrich the story.

Carlos’ Peace flows nicely between action, and building romance. It also has a few twists, some surprises and a couple of scenes that just break your heart. This series just keeps getting better and better and are really hard to put down. I highly recommend this book and I can’t wait for the next in the series!
