Eyes of Ember is the second book in the Imdalind Series and it continues Joclyn’s story. In book one, Joclyn found out she is not completely human and her whole life changed. Her best friend/love of her life, Ryland, doesn’t remember her and his father is trying to kill her. At the end of book one, she vows of save Ryland and stop his evil father.

This book begins with Joclyn in hiding in a tiny one room studio with Ilyan. She could not go out of the apartment because Ryland’s father and his forces were looking for her to kill her. Ilyan was shielding her from detection with his powers. Because of her bond with Ryland, she becomes very ill and cannot survive without entering their dream-world where she can regenerate her magic since it had combined with his.

Ilyan was a steady character throughout the book. He is her lifeline to the world, protecting her and teaching her magic and nursing her back to health. It was awesome to learn more about him and to see a different side of him. His story is heart-wrenching and makes the reader want to reach out to him. I loved how Joclyn’s feelings for Ilyan changed through the book, from friendship to caring about him to a realizing what a strong bond they have. He was the one who she ultimately turned to in her worse struggle.

This book was very emotional, taking the reader through Joclyn’s grief and agony and finally her coming into her potential. She had to travel through a wide range of turmoil and trials before finally accepting her destiny. Joclyn was fighting for her life, for her magic and even fighting her own heart.

This was a good addition to the Imdalind series.
