I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This is a paranormal romance with a little suspense based on Greek mythology and mermaid lore. I am a big fan of mythology but I had never read about mermaids until this book. It’s got a good storyline and the author was very detailed in her vision of the underwater world. I really liked the mythology and history references.

Callie and Orion are the two main characters in the novel. Callie has a great mom, wonderful little sister, but an evil, horrible step-father, who manipulated her mother. Callie’s home-life was not the best due to the strict and unreasonable expectations from the stepfather. She sought out her friends and the beach to escape from him. On her 18th birthday, she met a mysterious guy on the beach and immediately is drawn to him. They spent a couple of nights together but he disappears for a month leaving her to deal with the fallout from some major family drama. When he returns a month later, they share their first kiss and Callie’s life changes forever. Suddenly, she must adapt to a whole new life underwater.

Callie is a beautiful young woman in high school, planning to go to Brown University. She has a nice group of friends but still struggles with fitting in. She had a boy at school who kept asking her out, but she just doesn’t feel anything for him. I like that she shows growth through the book. She started out a little too needy and self-conscious, but along the way, she became a strong young woman.

Orion is a mysterious, sexy, blonde, hottie with big muscles that appears out of nowhere. He has waited for his true love and soulmate for centuries. He is powerful, strong, kind, romantic and humble. He has a huge protective streak and will do anything for his soulmate. He is also the son of the leader of the Mer People.

There was a good amount of action in the book and a nice plot twist at the end, but a couple of spots were a little slow. I like this book and am interested to see where the author takes the story next.
