I was asked to read and review this book for Late Night Books and Reviews.
Forever Marked is a smoothly flowing story of a young girls terror, with some great characters that are well fleshed out and a gentle love story that blossoms quite quickly, all flawlessly described to draw you in.
The heroine of this story is Ellora and from the first page of the book, she is terrified and in danger, fighting to escape an attacker, her terror and fear are succinctly described so that you are right there with her, immediately! No explanation is given as to why this young girl is being attacked or by whom, at the start.
This terrifying beginning had me wanting to get right into Ellora's story at warp speed. This didn't happen as the author eases the story along gently and gradually with amazing descriptive detail. As the reality behind the attack is revealed, you are drawn into a nightmare situation that this young woman has to face.
After fleeing the USA for Scotland, the home of her parents origins, Ellora meets with people that her parents grew up with and who are happy to help her settle in, not knowing of her troubles. Behr, the local ferryman and aptly named, as he is a bear of a man, is immediately drawn to the attractive American and he senses that she has issues that she needs to be protected from. Very soon, Ellora is an important member of this close knit group of villagers, accepted and loved making her feel more secure, although her terror is still very close to the surface and manifesting itself in regular nightmares.
This author has an amazing talent for making the village feel as comfortable as your own home town and the people as familiar as old friends, an easy story to enjoy and you will find yourself impatient for the continuation in book two.
This is book one with a second book planned, not certain if that will close the story or if there will be more in this series, the author doesn't give that information.
