Dracones Awakening, the first book in the Dracones series is mixture of paranormal romance and urban fantasy. The books features numerous mythical creatures that each had roles in the book. Several subplots were woven into the main story about Jax and Tierney. I really liked the story line and all of the sub plots. I also liked that the story was from different perspectives.

Tierney is a young immortal women living with her fallen-angel dad and two brothers, Jax and Sami, who have been friends with Tierney since early childhood. The group had escaped to earth from another world when an enemy race destroyed their village and killed many including their mothers. They work was private investigators specializing in missing persons cases.

Tierney is feisty, brave, loyal, compassionate, and can kick some serious butt. She has been in love with Jax since they were young and is convinced that they are soul mates. She has a very close relationship with her father, Jax and Sami, but lately, Jax had been pushing her away. Tierney is determined to break through all of the walls Jax creates to hide from her and push her away.

Jax is a serious, strong, loyal protector that is broken inside from several months of horrible childhood trauma. His father, a despicable man, had taken his sons away from Tierney’s father for a year and abused the boys. He had also arranged for Jax for be abused in many more ways. Jax never recovered emotionally from the terror that he faced as a child. He considers himself broken, unclean and unlovable.

In the description, it says for readers age 17+ and I would definitely agree. This story had a lot of graphic violence (torture) and numerous references to sexual abuse/rape (child sexual abuse) that I didn’t expect. I normally do not read books with those types of things, but I tried to look past it for an interesting plot and storyline. The sex scenes are also VERY explicit.

This book left me wanting to know more about the characters and needing answers to some questions and mysteries.
